Jeweller's wife shot dead during car chase
PASIR PUTIH: A 30-year-old woman travelling by car with her husband was shot dead yesterday morning after they did not heed a warning by three men in another car to stop.
Ayuni Hasyim and her husband were travelling to their jewellary shop in Jerteh, Terengganu from their home at Bachok. She was shot in her right shoulder and died on the arrival at the Bachok clinic. This tragedy happened around 8am at Cabang Tiga Kuala Semerak.

What is defibrillation?
Defibrillation is the definitive treatment for the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. It consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the affected heart with a device called a defibrillator. This depolarizes a critical mass of the heart muscle, terminates the arrhythmia and allows normal sinus rhythm to be re-established by the body’s natural pacemaker, in the sinoatrial node of the heart. It can be external, transvenous or implanted depending on the type of the device used.

What is gamma knife?
A gamma knife is a device used to treat brain tumors with a high dose of radiation therapy in one day. The device was invented by Lars Leksell a Swedish neurosurgeon in 1967 at the karolinska institute in Sweden. The gamma knife device contains 201 cobalt-60 sources of approximately 30 curies each, placed in a circular array in a heavily shielded assembly. The device aims gamma radiation through a target point in the patient’s brain. The patient wears a specialized helmet that is surgically fixed to their skull so that the brain tumor remains stationary at the target point of the gamma rays.

What is bioengineering?
Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and techniques to medical field. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to help improve the patient health care and the quality of life of individuals. As a new discipline, much of work in biomedical engineering consists of research and development, covering an array of field: bioinformatics, medical imaging, image processing, physiological signal processing, biomechanics, systems analysis and 3D modelling. Examples of concrete applications of biomedical engineering are the development and manufacture of biocompatible prostheses, medical devices, diagnostic devices and imaging equipment.
